Rust Never Sleeps is the title of the article in Kingpin issue 51 which follows the Vans team as they tour down the back streets of Switzerland:
Four days of Switzerland’s back alleys.
It started with a downhill… Which can never be a bad thing. Lausanne is famous to skaters for being built over steep inclines, but also for its smooth pavements and serpentine streets. Those attending the Grand Prix contests, back then, all share good memories of midnight bombing sessions, and some probably still feel the pain in some tarmac burn. So, what better start of a day than drop your bags and follow the leader down, down, down?
When legs felt stretched —even if a bit shaky— we were walking into a restaurant run by a friend of Micky Iglesias, our guide for the rest of the week. Local fish was waiting for us, and killing time while waiting for the rest of the crew to show up never tasted that good. By now, Alexis Jauzion was driving Ross Mc Gouran, Chris Pfanner and Danny Wainwright toward us, with the help of his new neighbour Yari Copt. Soon enough, we were all checking out some street spots around town, trying to warm our bones as the weather wasn’t turning out the best, and the night was already falling on us.
In the meantime, we had learned the “local fish” was actually imported, and not fished in the Leman Lake, in order to keep the menu prices decent. Ah, globalisation…
