Yup, it’s New Year, new opportunity to keep on doing just the same thing you did last year. Can’t wait. Press play and read on. Oh, how time flies..

Few years ago, I went on a very random trip. It was put together by Saba Heider, then the editor of chief of TWS skate business. Her idea was that we’d go to Morocco and shoot a cover with Kenny Reed, who was at the height of spinning The Traveller myth around his person. We met up with Saba in London, flew down to Malaga, sent the night on the bus station and caught a bus to Casablanca at 5 am. Once we got there, we received an sms from Kenny, saying “I cannot be there. Although I want to. Sorry.” His new girlfriend Maya had just arrived in Barcelona from Bulgaria and they couldn’t arrange a passport for her in time. We were still waiting for Alex Klein to show up, so I texted Kenny back, asking for spots or contacts, anything that he could help us with. “Find Ali, he will show you the spots” was Kenny’s reply. Great. We’ll just find Ali then and ask him, right? Alex showed up the next day and we ended up shooting some stuff around the central square in Casablanca. Saba did not get her cover. Surprisingly though, TWS weren’t too bummed. End of the day, we got the chance to visit Morocco, I got to know Alex and spend some time with Saba. We kept in touch with Alex over the years and went on another trip together with Jensen, Brady, Eniz and Mika as well couple of years later. Alex has since drifted away from skating somewhat to pursue other things. Saba’s residing in Beirut, where she works on something to do with universities I believe. Kenny, well, he’s still at it, and although that time in Casablanca Alex thought that Kenny should not be allowed to operate under the moniker of The Traveller any more and should switch to The Whipped instead, I think Kenny’s proven himself to be worthy of his title time and time again. The photos from the Moroccan trip ended up in an article in Lodown magazine, where Alex said some shit about how dirty Morocco was. Anyway, there’s an interview with Alex Klein below there, have a look and see what he’s up to these days. I’ll try to dig up the Moroccan photos and post them in the soon comes.

from on .

First met Bobby in Sofia, where he’d just arrived with Jack Sabback, Kenny Reed, Johnathan Mehring and Michael J Fox (the filmer, not the Alzheimer), after they’d got kicked out of Kenny’s Moscow mansion, where I’d staid with Tom Lock about a month earlier. See, it’s all connected. Bobby wasn’t too happy to be in Bulgaria, and from what Jonathan Mehring told me, he hadn’t been too happy about being in Russia either. In fact he was allegedly one of the reasons they got kicked out of the flat, being unable to control his anger at how the Ipath promo had turned out, punching through and antique wardrobe. Anyway, there’s a really nice interview with Bobby behind this link.
