Swiss Team Contest

C1RCA Footwear & Beach-Mountain present:

“THE BLACKOUT TEAM BATTLE”

After many years without any possibility to skate in a roof-covered area, the Freestyle Hall made available by the city of Zurich and operated by the association Freestyle Park Zurich was inaugurated in November 2008. In the course of the past months the hall proved to be made use of extensively, and soon the question arose when there would be the first contest.

In its function of periodical of the Swiss skateboarding scene, Blackout Magazine saw it as their responsibility to meet this demand and organize the first contest in the Freestyle Hall Zurich on April 4, 2009. The idea is to organize a contest which on the one hand demonstrates the high level of Swiss skaters, but on the other hand also shows the fun side of the sport.

To meet these requirements it was decided to arrange for a team contest instead of the usual single contests. By having three skaters per team skating simultaneously, the spectators are getting more action to watch, and the participants are in the first place riding together and not in competition with each other. Since with this format the duration of the individual runs is extended, there is a high probability that the level of tricks will increase. If in a normal contest a skater has barely a minute to present all his tricks, the three minutes allowed for teams will permit to easily take the time for a second attempt at a difficult maneuver. It may therefore be taken that there will be sights to see.

In addition to the official contest there will also be various interludes to spice up the event. As an example it will be measured who can place a sticker at the highest point in a wallride. Or for half an hour all the riders have the opportunity at the same time to show their best trick. A daring jump will also be a topic. In any case high spirits will be guaranteed.

Besides the organization of a successful event which will draw attention even from beyond the borders of Switzerland, the intention was also to direct the focus on the uniqueness of the skateboarding sport and to show that the new hall is suited for national contests as well.
