Chris! Been busy? It’s been hard to get a hold of you lately.
I’m in New Jersey right now, visiting my mom. I’m hosting like a travel show for Fuel TV, so I’ve been in New York for that and then I did this mural for a tradeshow that they had over here.
What’s the show called?
It’s kind of like a long commercial, it’s like a minute and a half and they show it in between shows and on certain other shows, it’s like, you call it an interstitial. It’s like in between a show and a commercial.
Ooh-kay…
So I travel to different cities and meet a skater or a snowboarder and go to all their local spots and it’s like a 90 second guide thing where they show four or five of their favourite locations with like the name at the bottom of the screen.
Who did you do that with in New York?
Andy Kessler. You ever heard of him? He’s like 45 now, he’s been skating in New York since the 70’s. He was basically one of the first skaters in New York City. And he still skates good too!
Do you do that show on a regular basis?
Yeah I’m on a trip for them every other week pretty much.
Sounds like a big chunk of your time then.
Yeah, it’s pretty gnarly. That’s why I’m recovering right now! (haha) I’ll be here visiting my mom all week, chilling out, skating.
Is that where you go when you need to…
Get away from everything? Yeah. This is the place where I truly get a break from everything!
And what do you usually do when you’re there?
Usually for the first few days I don’t do anything at all. It’s the only time I actually get uninterrupted sleep and I don’t have a schedule. Most proskaters have their own schedule, but I gotta be somewhere pretty much every day at 9 am or earlier. So this is like the only time when I don’t have any responsibilities.
Have you got something lined up after you’ve gotten your rest and you return home?
Yeah, I have to get back to work on some shoes that we’re doing with Dekline, so I need to get back this week, really. It’s this shoe that me and Jason are designing.
What else is going on with Stereo?
Well, we’re working on the video and some of the guys have a good jump start on it already. I’m a little behind because of all this Fuel stuff! (haha) So we’ve got some stuff that we’re putting on the internet, like this little Benny (Fairfax) clip that we did, maybe you saw that on the website. But the best stuff obviously gets saved for the video.
Speaking of Benny, is he going to have a board out soon?
That’s definitely coming up. We haven’t actually sat down and made a formal plan for him, but Jason and I’ve talked about it and he’s definitely the next one in line. It would be nice to get his board out there when the video drops. He’s been ripping so hard again. He’s back on it, he’s been on fire lately.
