Grey Market Supply opened its doors a in Helsinki a couple of weeks ago. Headed by three OGs, it aims to fill a gap in the towns skate shop map by offering brands with history, such as Shut. Jäke Tumppi Vuorensola, one of the owners of the shop says they won’t have shop boards and they won’t have a TV because they believe in supporting good brands and they believe in old fashioned conversation that used to fill skate shops with rumors and speculation rather than staring at a 44” screen. Apart form hard goods with a legacy, they carry “core shoes like Adidas and Nike. And we’ll have Vans and Emerica of course, you gotta have those in a skate shop!” he laughs. Tumppi welcomes everyone to drop by for a bit of verbal thought exchange. With his long history as s scene kingpin- he came up with the idea for Control skateboards- there’s always going to be stories floating about in this fine establishment. The shop will feature some art on its walls on an irregular basis. One of the other owners, Masa Suominen is the man behind the Ghetto Blaster culbnights and clothes, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this shop turned out to be the place to visit to learn what’s going on that night or the next and maybe hear a couple of tunes as well.
Greymarket Supply is located in Lasipalatsi, Mannerheimintie, Lower East Side of South Central Helsinki.
