In our issue 54, currently on sale, we caught up with Brian Lotti. His new film Free Pegasus is premiering in just over a week. Here he talks about making the film and other daily ops.
(conversation with Seb Carayol)
BL : Good day !
Hey Brian, it’s 10 AM and I’m not waking you up I assume?
Not at all, I’ve been up for a while. I am in my studio in downtown LA right now, that I share with my girlfriend. I’m helping her screen printing a bunch of CD covers for that French band Hermann Dune, they’ve had an album out on the label she works with, Everloving. I’m helping setting up the tables for it, there’s three drops for each side of the CD case, we’re trying to figure this out.
Then I’m going back home and finish a little writing for the movie, the skate video shot in Barcelona. There’s a few poems in there, so I’m doing a little writing for that.
You still editing parts of it at home?
No actually, we’ve been editing at my buddy Kevin’s place. We’re pretty far now, we’re gonna trim the fat and just add these poems and few pieces of art that Clint Peterson has been doing.
Where did the Free Pegasus title come from?
Ultimately, the whole concept came from skating with these guys in Barcelona. Seb, I like the name cause it’s a little mysterious, you know? One of the poems kinda plays with it, but ultimately yeah, it’s up for everybody to make up what they want.
It’s cool that it’s not called “skate Barcelona” or something generic.
Yeah ! Plus it’s not really about Barcelona, it’s more about the spirit that brings people together.
Have you been oil painting lately?
Yeah, keeping at it. I have a few portraits going, and then a few landscapes.
You have other plans for tonight?
I wanna skate with my friend Kaz, it’ll be fun to skate a little bit. We’re going to try to skate downtown a little bit, or a little place by my house in Eagle Rock.
Do you still have time to skate lot these days?
Hum… I think I skate a little bit every day, take a little break and just go skate for an hour.
Where I’am at right now, by Chino, I’m not too motivated to skate these giant parks with prison bars around them…
Yeah, there’s no romance to these parks, theyre not that fun.
Brian’s part from Planet Earth’s Now’N’Later. Brian invented the bigspin. Imagine skating today without that trick. I know, I can’t either.
