Was it a case of finishing school in Sweden before returning?
Yeah, it was like…I was trying to finish school, but I mean, I never finished school though, I kept dropping out. I’d start a class and go for 6 months and be like aah, I’m getting sick of this and then I’d drop out and start again the next year and not feel it again. I just did that for a bunch of years. I just didn’t have the attention span to finish it.
Was that because of skating? Were you already out travelling, doing stuff in skating?
You mean why I couldn’t just chill there and finish the school? That was mainly just my personality, I think, a little bit (haha). I can’t really just sit down and do paperwork or what do you call it. I like being out there.
When you visit Stockholm now, what do you think of the place?
I like the skate scene there, it’s gotten a lot bigger, lot of cool big parks are being built, heaps more kids are skating. A lot of the same people are still around, but a bunch of new people too. Actually a bunch of people I grew up skating with don’t really skate any more.
You ever get the feeling that had you staid in Sweden you might have drifted onto other things as well?
I mean I look back at some friends that haven’t really been doing too much with themselves, that have sort of gone down the wrong track, but I think that’s caused by the long winters a bit, the nothing-to-do-syndrome. I think I got out of it at a good time. Australia is good cause you can skate all year around, even in the winter it’s just a bit overcast.
When you moved back at 20, did you already have a group of friends to skate with back in Australia?
Yeah I did. I started skating in Australia, and I had my old friends, like Tristan Walker, who back then was one of the kids blowing up here. I’d always kept in contact with other dudes back here, so I sort of had skate homies in both Sweden and Australia.
Did you sort of get hooked up with sponsors and that after you moved back?
Yeah, I mean had like weird flow sponsorship and distribution deals back in Sweden, but when I left it was like I’m moving, so whatever. But then Dustin helped me out a lot out here with stuff like Volcom and he got me on flow for Baker so they helped me a bunch with boards. But yeah then eventually I got hooked up with Almost through Daewon and it’s been really good ever since that!
When did that happen actually?
When was that? I don’t know, maybe…[shouts out] Hey when did I start riding for Almost?
Are you asking your girlfriend?
Yeah! She just said November 2005, I think.
