She’s from America isn’t she? How does that work with visas and work permits and that?
We got her a de facto visa so she could stay, so we had to like show that we’re really a couple and stuff like that.
And you’re working on getting a work visa for US yourself, right?
Yeah that’s what I’m trying to get. It’s a lot of paperwork, it’s kind of tiring, but hopefully I’ll get it soon and start going over there again and shredding!
What do they think at the embassy, when you try to get a work visa as a professional skateboarder?
I’ve no idea, I haven’t gotten that far! But when I get this one for US I’ll be good to go anywhere. I’ve got the dual citizenship for Australia and Europe and then I’ll have the work visa for US, so I can just be a traveller! (haha)
You got any travelling lined up in the soon comes?
Well, coming up for the next year or so I’ll try to get the visa sorted out and travel as much as I can together with the team, the Almost dudes and stuff. We’re gonna be working on our video, so I’ll just try to rack up footage for that.
Is there any pressure on you from your sponsors to move out to America like there is for a lot of guys from Europe, or is it cool for you to rep them in Australia?
I think it’s hard for Europe that it’s such a mix of countries, whereas Australia is on big country. So I don’t know, as long as you’re skating and being productive and putting stuff out there’s no reason why the companies would say you have to be somewhere else. At least that’s the way I see it. A lot of people tour the whole time anyway, like a lot of people I know would be travelling over 200 days a year…
What about you, how much of your time do you spend on the road?
Well, last year I was probably gone for more than six months of the year on random tours and stuff, but this year since I haven’t gotten this visa it’s been a lot less.
I saw you buying a lot of records in Sweden. Do you moonlight as a dj?
Nah, I just like reggae, so when I come across it, I try to get as much of the good stuff as I can. Some of it is hard to find you know, like with any record collecting I guess.
