BRIXTON SUNSET JAM
On friday 8th May there will be some shenanigans down at the vaguely newly refurbished Brixton Skate Park, located near the Britxton Academy on Stockwell Road. It will kick off at 5pm, and Red Bull will supply the floodlights ensuring that night fall doesn’t bring the proceedings to a halt. There is going to be a BBQ for all....which will be ‘cheap cheap’........like the budgie, as well as DJ setup and a refuel area for the congregating congregation. If you don’t know where it is.......your mad, get on Google maps.

Birdhouse has added a bunch of new videos on their site. So have many others, you say, but do those “others” have a jump back five seconds button on their player? Didn’t think so. With this groundbreaking innovation that the international skate community has been waiting for, Birdhouse have solved the problem of rewinding half the part when, really, you only wanted to see if the last trick was switch or regular. Genius.

Went to the Corby vert ramp on the past few days.
I’ve always had a ton of respect for the vert dudes but fuck me these guys blew my head off. Sam Beckett is insane. Buttery smooth powerful tech modern vert skating at its best and the dude is only 16. Sam is on Blind Europe that is quickly becoming a rock solid (as my cock) team. Jussi Korhonen is oh so gnarly. The high priest of vert skating and skating in general. The general. All the guys, young and old, were ripping the ramp and the atmosphere there is really really good. Also the resin bit (some foam topped with a plascticky slider) is so much fun to do stuff on. McTwists anyone? The past few days on the ramp have been a real eye opener. There is a great scene going on right there and vert is just so exciting. Like skating should be. Simply rad and pumped up. Taking shit to another dimension. Walking on the moon. Yessssssss! Thanks Hugh for the rides.
OK. Let’s put more shit on here as I haven’t bothered to log in for a while.
Slobodan Burgher - the uber cool Team Kaputt douchebag who skates more in his dreams than on cement these days (but will still have the last part in TK’s Amazing Grace ((Amazing Craze?))) has gone totally hyper virtual right here. This is like so fucking good and I feel like slapping a few secret (not so secret anymore after the google craze) dreams on the site. Ok. Find this: 2 meter drop into a brick bank about 2 meter high from the sidewalk (about 4 m in total) and into a downhill. Totally epic Omar Salazar spot, found in north London somewhere abouts one of them football grounds. Don’t bother to leave your house as you can google it and then slap it on the site. First idiot to find the correct spot will win a signed Jose enjoi board. No shit!!!! That’s a comp right there. Leave your email with the correct answer on the following SON site. The spot is red and gnarly. Jose is pro for enjoi and I really do have his board here and I will bloody fucking well send it off to someone. (Has anyone seen my room how much too much stuff there is?)
GO HERE: Skateable Or Not - SON! Take part - make art.
YEAH! Goddamn! I could just quote the whole text from this blog and glue it onto my bedroom wall:
Best of both worlds.
Elukka Engestrom has been in London for some months now. Adventures of Sika and Elukka to come soon. Stay tuned to the wires. Kennyland mini is the happy place uuuuu. Saturday saw an epic messed up session and pork chops bbq go down Bar23 Dalston Kingsland Road Square hot hot heat.
James Craig is tight. Where’s that link then?
Dead Kids is the best band playing in London right now. Did anyone see Selfish Cunt playing in the Shoreditch church? The atmosphere was epic though the gig would be slightly so so. But he-hey so many kids nodding on ketamine these days. What’s up with the folks these days? Fuck that shit. You skaters you know who you are doing that shit too. Kills your brain 100%.
The Stool Pigeon party this Thursday next to Hackney Central. Yeah fuck those guys do the best parties and the hottest girls lurk around like a bunch of sharks ready to bite some male flesh the boys are drunken dogs and the music is the best in town. THE music paper this side of the moon has the new issue out right now. http://www.thestoolpigeon.co.uk/
Spring is oh so here and summer is knocking on the windows. Too super hot road gaps keep popping up in and around my new hood. Hefe and Dany Hamard are heading to London. New park to be build in Stoke Newington’s Clossid Park. Have your pint in Pangena Project. Weird Shit right there in that joint. Skateboarding is the best thing ever. Yeah! Winter is so long gone and fuck this sort of indoor huudulum but hey man click it any way cause is just so fucking RAD.
Yeah, “rad” is totally making a come back. Just ask Matt White. Word of the week. Word!

Giannis Gekopoulos, 5050
Our broken-toes-tour-guide slash sick-skater-sahib Giannis didn’t let the rain or his injury bother him yesterday, but took us to this undercover over rail to bank spot and switch back heeled it in 5 minutes tops. Took me about 50 to get the flashes up. The Finnish winter will do that to a man, when there’s no reason to set anything up for about 5 months a year. Oh and he fiftied some stupid rail as well. Tearing the Greek peninsula apart for the next week, we have Phil Zwijsen and Kevin Tshala. So far, the country is putting up pretty tough resistance, Phil’s got a cold and Tshala’s tweaked his leg. Out comes the whip. Yesterday, after we’d just been skating the Aris plaza, the one with the white Pier 7 type blocks, we got busted by about 15 cops trying to leave the spot. It’s under construction, so you have to jump a fence to get in there. Mind you, the fence was there a year ago, when we were here with the C1rca dudes, and since then, nothing at all has changed inside. In any case, some concerned citizen had spotted up in there and figured we were anarchists wrecking the marble. Since the riots in the area few months ago, everyone’s on their toes a bit, not least the cops. The weird thing was that the cops were not at all bothered with the kids still skating the spot, they were worried about us, since they didn’t see our boards first. Searched the car for drugs and petrol bombs, then checked some IDs and let us go with a smile. The place we’re staying, at the Exarchion square, is right in the middle of where the riots were. 3 months ago, you could have sucked in the teargas and watch the molotovs fly and police cars burn straight from our window. Riot police still patrol the area after dark with their shields and batons. Anyway, time to head to Syntagma now, meet up with Giannis for a day of shredding with limp limbs and sore throats.

On a much more serious note, today, Christophe Bétille is being buried in his hometown of Nantes.
French readers amongst you will have heard of Christophe passing last wednesday nigth, after a last session at the street park, of a heart attack.
Legendary french ramp rider, with Bruno Rouland, and OG scene builder, Christophe has been around for long enough that everybody in France must have run in him at least once, wether as comp organizer, shop owner, session motivator… I am personnaly deeply saddened seeing him go that early, and would like to associate to his girlfriend, family and friends pain for a minute.
Let’s all remember this time is short and let’s try to be kinder to each other.

New Beirut album out shortly, Boomkat now taking orders!
See, they almost walk as they play, like straight from the Kusturica film Underground, where the main character is followed by a Gypsy brass band where ever he goes. The first person to send in a clip where he does at least 3 trick line with a brass band following him, playing something catchy like wins a Beirut album!
Amen to that.

Some of you will remember Duane
from his skating style displayed in the two first offering of the Workshop, Memory Screen and Time Code.
Well, he’s now a composer living in NYC and writing strange but interesting musical landscapes, like this one:
If you feel intrigued enough, you’ll find more of him here…
