June 17 will go down as a sad day in German skateboarding, as city officials finally made the ledges at the Dom Plaza (aka Roncalliplatz, aka “the spot next to the big church") unskateable. Local skaters led by the Dom Skateboarding e.V. first managed to hinder the workers who showed up at 9am to cut chamfers into the ledges, but had to give way after protesting, and discussing with city officials for eight hours.
So far, the city has promised alternatives, but it has still failed to come up with a single one. Cultural disgrace.

The European Emerica team are about to go Wild in the Streets in three major cities this summer
For the first time in the history of this event, the European team will take part and be present at not only one, but three of the biggest Wild in the Streets planned for this summer’s tour and literally, go Wild in the Streets with the general public in each city.
Our first stop will see skateboarders: Pontus Alv, Maxime Genin, Enis Fazilov, Jo Lorenz and Thomas Nielsen pitstop in Oslo, Norway on June 21st at 12 o’clock. Hitting the streets along a secret route, skaters from all over Norway will be given a taste of what skateboarding is all about: having a bit of wild fun with your friends. Wrapping up the day will see Psycho Grandmother Project headlining a party not to be missed.
Two weeks later on July 5th, the Emerica team will terrorize the streets of Eindhoven, in the City of Lights, together with the locals. Helder “Ed” Lima, Jo Lorenz and Rob Maatman will skate the city - famous for the Phillips light bulb – in the south of The Netherlands.
The starting point of the Dutch Wild in the Streets will be announced a few days before the event and will have a big afterparty with DJ’s and bands playing at Area 51.
Finally, one week later on July 12th, Wild in the Streets will hit the capital of Romania, the city with the heaviest building in the world, Bucharest.
The skate scenes in Eastern Europe have been growing leaps and bounds in recent years, so Emerica wants is supporting them by hosting a Wild in the Streets in Romania. Ricardo Fonseca, Julian Dykmans and Stefan “The Beast” Sperka will get wild on the last leg of their tour in Bucharest.

Lem Villemin and Alex Mizurov dominated the first round of the COS Cup, the official German Championship series, in Osnabrück and Münster last weekend, taking first and second place after a completely bonkers final jam session. Lem sealed the deal with a perfect switch 360° flip over the curb cut - I’m not too sure whether that’s been done before. And the place has been there for quite a few years already. It was good to see Louis Taubert back on track as well. He was one of the top candidates for the championship 2007, but a game of soccer, or, to be more precise, a smashed ankle got in the way - he ended up in fourth place.
The Bones team was in attendance, especially Adam Dyet, who didn’t exactly shine through his skating, but more through just being a plain dick; e.g. sending people out for cocaine, stomping glass bottles at the party making shards fly in peoples faces. Come on man, grow up, will you?
This is the first time after a few years of “sponsored only” that the COS Cup has an amateur series as well, and this premier went down nicely as well. The “kids” in attendance skated on a respectable level and were obviously stoked to be part of the deal.
The next stop is not even two weeks away: June 6th-8th is the date, Dresden’s beautiful outdoor concrete park Lignerallee is the place, last year was a blast there. And have we mentioned the COS Bowl series yet? There is one, as well as two vert stops, and a series called COS essentials, which is more of a session with BBQ, DJs, and no schedule to follow. All the dates are at http://clubofskaters.de

Sebastian Gronewald, Bastian Metscher, Benjamin Ripsch, Marcel Muchaier, Christoph Radke, Kevin Vietzke, Leo Jakobs, and Daniel Schwiese have so far qualified for the German éS Game of Skate finals in Stuttgart (June 14th) during the qualis in Bochum and Hamburg. There’s one more stop in Leipzig at the Rollmops Skatemall this weekend (17th) - the top four earn a spot in Stuttgart. The European finals take place in Prague, June 28/29. Apart from that, this upcoming weekend is one for concrete: Flensburg park opening (including the already infamous ledge to 13ft. kidney deep end drop), featuring a lot of kids from all over Germany, and the Quiksilver Bowlriders qualification in Hagen’s Mickey Mouse pool (e.g. Ross McGouran), which will probably be featuring a tight group of seasoned beer drinkers.

A skateboarding project in Kabul, Afghanistan called Skateistan . Basically we want to build a skate park in Kabul and then hand it over to Afghans to manage. The project founders Sharna, Travis and myself lived in Kabul last year and started skateboarding with kids there and found it to be a great way to interact with them and they were super keen to learn. We only had 3 boards last year but this year we have 30 brand new setups from Blackbox, 30 pairs of new Fallen shoes and a heap of second hand boards to impress the kids with. TSG have sponsored us with safety equipment and Convic are designing the park for us. Any sort of coverage would be rad and we can give you interviews with the skaters in Kabul. We really want to give Afghan youth a voice and give em a chance to have a little fun.
Things that help us are skate media coverage (mags, posts on websites) with links to our site skateistan.org . At the moment we need cash to send the equipment we have from Switzerland, Germany and Australia to Kabul so if people can donate a small amount via our paypal donate button on our site that would be really rad. The 2 other founders and myself have agreed to do this on our own money, so any money donated to the project goes 100% to shipping donated equipment over.
If anyone is interested in representing the project in the UK and can hold fundraisers (ie bowl jam) we would definitely welcome them on board.
Another idea is maybe to print skateistan tshirts in the UK or make products with Skateistan branding where some of the money makes it back to our project. We can send over files for logos etc
We would also like to collect old skateboards for the project but at the moment we are still trying to send over the ones that have already been donated, so that might be an idea for down the track.
If any pros want to come and visit us once we have some ramps built I think it would give us some great coverage. Renton Millar has expressed interest and Mike Vallely’s film maker has been in touch with us.
Contacts of other possibly interested people help alot.

Wilko at éS sent us an email with the blow-by-blow:
“ Last weekend it was éS Game of SKATE-weekend in the Netherlands!
On Saturday there were 12 qualifying rounds spread all over the country where about 300 skaters in total competed for a place in the final on Sunday in The Hague.
The man to beat was Sewa Kroetkov who has some impressive éS Game of SKATE statistics! Sewa entered the Dutch éS Game of SKATE four times over the last years and won three of them. From the three times he entered the European finals he won the 2005 one and ended up second in 2007.
After a few rounds of SKATE we ended up with; Steve van der Kooi, éS Europe rider Ricardo Paterno, Leon Huiskes and Sewa Kroetkov. While Sewa won from Steve without giving up one letter it was a more thrilling battle between Leon and Ricardo. They both ended up with S.K.A.T. but Leon kept his head cool and won this half final.
So the final of 2007 repeated itself, Leon Huiskes vs. Sewa Kroetkov. Everyone was excited and wanted to see if Leon could prevent Sewa from going to the European finals for the fourth time. They both skate really clean, had lots of pop and were clearly leveled with each other, also this game ended up with both of the skaters having S.K.A.T. In the end Leon failed to make a nollie double heelflip which sends Sewa to the European finals for the fourth time!”

Another day of professional skateboarding and full time hanging out here in Athens. It’s alright for some, innit? Fabian Verhaeghe krooked grinds to his heart’s delight.
While Samu slavered over the bsnoseblunt transfer, the rest of the team had a little game of Throw The Stone. The objective? There isn’t one. You pick a stone and you throw it. Repeat action one.
Geoffrey van Hove films like a man, remote control resting in one hand, fag slowly burning on the other.
Putting the fun back in funbox.
Hair-o-wine is no joke. While Fabian was swblunting the rail, that was going on 5 meters from us. They showed up, glanced at us, holed up in the corner, cooked up, shot up and wobbled away. You could see the drug literally taking over, when the guy morphed into a lump of al dente as the plunge went down. There’s no fucking about with Big H. Touch it and it takes charge.

Grey Market Supply opened its doors a in Helsinki a couple of weeks ago. Headed by three OGs, it aims to fill a gap in the towns skate shop map by offering brands with history, such as Shut. Jäke Tumppi Vuorensola, one of the owners of the shop says they won’t have shop boards and they won’t have a TV because they believe in supporting good brands and they believe in old fashioned conversation that used to fill skate shops with rumors and speculation rather than staring at a 44” screen. Apart form hard goods with a legacy, they carry “core shoes like Adidas and Nike. And we’ll have Vans and Emerica of course, you gotta have those in a skate shop!” he laughs. Tumppi welcomes everyone to drop by for a bit of verbal thought exchange. With his long history as s scene kingpin- he came up with the idea for Control skateboards- there’s always going to be stories floating about in this fine establishment. The shop will feature some art on its walls on an irregular basis. One of the other owners, Masa Suominen is the man behind the Ghetto Blaster culbnights and clothes, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this shop turned out to be the place to visit to learn what’s going on that night or the next and maybe hear a couple of tunes as well.
Greymarket Supply is located in Lasipalatsi, Mannerheimintie, Lower East Side of South Central Helsinki.

This just in from the Shut skates folks in New York:
“For the first time ever, Frank’s Chop Shop, a New York based full-service traditional barbershop has collaborated with legendary New York skateboarding company SHUT, to produce a limited edition skateboard designed by popular artist, Steve Ellis.
The FCS/SHUT skateboard is an exclusive collectable, with only 151 boards being released. It is a unique extension of the SHUT Blade board series, as well as another offering in a series of Frank’s Chop Shop exclusive limited edition products. Each FCS/SHUT board is fully dipped in white, with the FCS logo across the front. This features a message from Benjamin Franklin, the original “Modern Gentleman of Leisure,” that reads, “ A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over.” With the board having a full image of a barber blade on the back, created by Steve Ellis, this is perfect for the creative skater who appreciates art.
The FCS/SHUT skateboard retails for $70 and will be available at Frank’s Chop Shop (19 Essex Street, NYC), as well as on frank151. The boards go on sale starting April 2008.”
